Who Is a Good Candidate for Dentures?

Since single missing teeth are better restored with a dental implant, we typically recommend dentures for patients who are missing several or all of their teeth. So, if you are struggling to smile confidently due to moderate to severe tooth loss, don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with us! You can also read on to learn more on the topic of who dentures can help, including the qualities we look for in a good candidate.
Effects of Missing Teeth
We mentioned above that tooth loss can make it hard to smile confidently. The truth is that’s just the beginning. An incomplete smile can also make it difficult to enunciate clearly and increase your risk of several oral health problems, including dental drift. Plus, a compromised bite can make eating a healthy, well-balanced diet difficult, which is why patients who are missing teeth are left eating applesauce, pudding, and plain yogurt on repeat.
There is good news, though: we can replace several missing teeth in a row or an entire arch with dentures! If you are interested in finding out if this tried-and-true tooth-replacement solution is right for you, then take the next step: schedule a consultation.
What Qualifies You for Dentures?
There are several things good dentures candidates have in common, including moderate to severe tooth loss, good oral and overall health, and a commitment to taking good care of their smiles. If that sounds like you, then schedule a consultation with us! Once we’ve reviewed your dental history, completed a comprehensive oral exam, and learned about your day-to-day routine, we can determine if dentures are the best tooth-replacement solution for you.
Note: There are some cases when patients aren’t candidates for dentures right away, including when one or more teeth are severely decayed. The good news is that we offer tooth extractions at our Jupiter dental office. So, even if that’s the case, we can streamline the treatment process. Before you know it, you’ll have a strong bite and a complete smile again!
Alternative Tooth-Replacement Options
If you are only missing one tooth, or you don’t want a prosthetic that can slip or slide, you’ll be happy to hear that dentures aren’t the only option. We also offer dental implants! This state-of-the-art tooth-replacement option is the only one that can replace both the root and crown of your tooth. Plus, since it’s inserted directly into the jawbone, it can help prevent bone loss and preserve your youthful face shape. If this sounds like the smile-rebuilding solution you’ve been looking for, then schedule an appointment with us.
Types of Dentures

Every patient is presented with options because no two smiles are alike. When discussing dentures, you’ll be able to choose from the following:
- Partial Dentures: These are designed to fit comfortably between any remaining teeth and fill gaps like the last piece of a puzzle. They are usually held in place with small metal clasps that loop around neighboring teeth.
- Full Dentures: Full dentures bring back an entire row of teeth at the same time and stay in place by sitting directly on the gums with the help of natural suction and maybe some denture adhesive.
- Implant Dentures: The new teeth are anchored to the jawbone using a small number of dental implants. This makes the prosthetic extremely stable while also providing stimulation to the jawbone to prevent resorption (shrinking).
How Do Snap-In Dentures Work?

We will place dental implants into your upper or lower jaw, and these will act like new tooth roots for your dentures. They will each be topped with a rounded joint that the denture literally snaps onto. This setup restores much more bite strength and also leads to more stability.
Dentures vs. Implant Dentures

Our team has helped over 1,000 patients renew their confidence, appearance, and health using both dentures and dental implants. It is really just a matter of preference. Some patients choose traditional dentures because they can usually be completed without surgery. However, with dental implants, the extra preparation results in a prosthetic that can be trusted to look and function naturally as well as last for 30+ years.
At your free consultation, we’ll present both treatments to you and discuss the finer points so it’s easy to decide which one is right for you.
